Part 2: The New You Is In Your Born-Again Spirit
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV)
Today’s Message – 7th of February 2021
If you are a born-again believer in Christ, I long for you to ‘know’ who you really are – ‘You are primarily a born-again Spirit with a Soul living in a body!’ Think of yourself in that way/order, “I am a born-again Spirit, with a Soul, living in this Body.”
The day Jesus became your Lord and Saviour was the moment when your old spirit died and replaced, taken over, and possessed by the Spirit of Jesus (Gal. 4:6). The old you (spirit) was crucified with Christ, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Gal. 2:20, NKJV).
So as a born-again Christian one third of you has become brand new, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2Cor. 5:17, NKJV) Here’s the same verse in the TPT translation, “Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new creation. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new.” (2Cor. 5:17). Underlined and bolded words highlight this truth – There is absolutely no trace of the old you. It’s totally gone, dead, forever!
To access the new in your born-again spirit you must daily renew your mind (soul), “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2, NKJV). The word ‘transform’ here is the Greek word ‘metamorphoo’ where we get ‘metamorphosis’ from, a process where a crawling caterpillar ends up flying (i.e. butterfly). That amazing transformation, picture, is the result of a renewed mind/soul.
The more your mind (soul) is trained, educated and renewed by God’s Word, the more it will agree with the Holy Spirit (God!) who’s living in your born-again spirit. And agreement between your spirit and soul means 2 against 1. They become the majority. And when your spirit and soul dominate your thinking, your body simply follows along and does whatever it’s told to do.
Now since the Holy Spirit who lives in your born-again spirit is also the Spirit of Jesus (Gal. 4:6), the resurrection power and life of Jesus will start to flow out from your born-again spirit to influence your soul and body. Before you know it God’s promises start to become a reality in your life, and find yourself constantly filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control, every day! (Gal. 5:22). Yes, with God all things are possible! (Matt. 19:26)
