It’s been Sandra and my habit to listen to the Lord for His revelation for our church at the beginning of every year. So, while camping the Lord highlighted this incredible truth: We are spirit, soul, and body. Now that may not sound that incredible at all, however, I promise you, when, you get hold of this revelation, it will revolutionise your life! You will start to realise the power and impact of such scriptures like,
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13)
“He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1John 4:4)
“Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for—believe that you have received[e] them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:24) ……. the list goes on.
Here’s our key scripture for today:
“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify[a] you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ..” (1Thess. 5:23, NKJV)
Today I’m starting a series of messages on the above revelation. As born-again believers we should really think, and refer to ourselves, as spirit first and foremost, then soul and then body. In a nutshell you and I are a spirit, with a soul, living in a body. This revelation has unlocked for me amazing truths about what exactly took place when I became born again in June 1974.
Having been born-again since 1974 this scripture has always puzzled me, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2Corinthians 5:17, NKJV). It says that I, a born-again believer, is totally new. It says that the old me is totally gone! And yet when I look in the mirror, I look exactly the same. When someone annoys me, I get annoyed back. My experience seems to be the total opposite of this verse. I can’t see, feel, smell, and taste this “new me.” What’s going on?
Praise God! He opened my eyes. I’m no longer confused. I now understand that it was only my spirit that got born again. God came into my spirit, not into my emotions (soul) or my physical body. My soul and my body were definitely not born again. Hence why my body with its five senses continue to function the same way as they were before I became a believer in Jesus Christ.
So, God now lives in my born-again spirit! Listen, “…..God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, [a]“Abba, Father!” (Galatians 4:6) The word ‘heart’ refers to believer’s innermost part, that is, the spirit.
Think about it. As a born-again believer your spirit is wall to wall Holy Spirit! Your spirit is totally filled with God, contained by God, owned by God. That also means that your born-again spirit right at this moment is identical to Jesus Himself. Listen, “But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” (1Corinthians 6:17) The word “one” in the Greek means exactly the same in every possible way.
The following scripture further explains this incredible truth, “……as He (Jesus) is, so are we in this world.” (bracket mine, 1 John 4:17) Note the tense in this verse – as Jesus is (present tense), so as we (present tense) in this world. Your born-again spirit right now is the same one you will have for all eternity!
Wow! Have you ever thought about God Almighty living in you 24/7? Put your seatbelt on. As I develop this truth, I encourage you to see yourself this way (say to yourself daily): “I am a spirit, with a soul, living in a body.”
