Today’s key verses were part of Jesus farewell words to His disciples,
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:16-18, NKJV).
I want us to focus on these words – another, Helper, abide with you, forever, Spirit of truth, will be in you, and I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you. These words reveal why we are much better off to have the Holy Spirit living in us rather than Jesus living among us.
Another – Jesus said that when He goes back to heaven, ‘another’ person just like Him from heaven will come to replace Him (Jesus). He was talking about the Holy Spirit.
Helper – If you were to look up other bible versions you would find different words beside ‘Helper’. For example, ‘Advocate’ (NASB), ‘Counselor’ (HCSB), ‘Comforter’ (GNV). Those are all the names and functions of the Holy Spirit. He is amazing.
Abides with you / will be in you – You visit a motel but abide or live in your home. The Holy Spirit abides / lives in you. You are His temple. (1Cor. 6:19). How do you feel about ‘housing’ God Almighty! That is a miracle!
Spirit of truth – He is the Teacher of God’s Word and always confirms the truth of God’s Word. He reveals all truths about God. The Holy Spirit never lies. He always speaks the truth.
I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you – Born-again believers are not defenseless orphans. Jesus has come in the person of the Holy Spirit to live inside of them – God’s sons and daughters. Orphans beg. God’s children belong to God’s family!
Forever – The Holy Spirit who is now living in you is not there for 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 10, 30, 50 years. No. He lives in you FOREVER! He will never leave you.
So here is my prayer for you today – “That you may meet your sent-from-heaven Personal,
So, stop struggling on your own and start sharing your heart with the Holy Spirit. Remember, He is your Helper, Comforter, Counselor and Advocate! He truly is awesome!
