“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen!” (Luke 24:5-6, NKJV)
“Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. 3 For you died [to this world], and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1-3, NKJV)
Jesus has risen! And so are you! This is the heart of today’s message.
I hope by now you are starting to see yourself as God sees you. If you are a born again Christian, God sees you in the light of the finished work of Jesus on the cross.
That means, when Jesus died, you also died. That is, your old nature, your sinful self that was in your sinful spirit (remember we are spirit, soul and body?) died on the cross with Jesus. Jesus and you were crucified on that cross. That is the essence of what it means to be a new creation that is IN Christ. (2Corinthians 5:17-18)
So, when Jesus was buried, you too, your old sinful self, sinful spirit that was separated from God, was also buried with Jesus. You died and was buried with Jesus.
Then the miracle of Jesus being raised from the dead by God the Father. The bible calls this the resurrection. The word resurrection means to come back to life to never die again! No one in the whole of history has ever done this except Jesus. Only Jesus has been resurrected from death.
Now you too were raised from the dead. But, it’s not the same you that died with Jesus. The you that died with Jesus is gone forever! The new person, that rose with Jesus from the dead, never existed before. God created that new person at the very moment Jesus became your Lord and Saviour. That day, that moment you became born again, God literally came into your spirit with the new person that He created! That new person that God created was / is a son or daughter of God, which is why your born-again spirit cries out ‘Abba Father.” (see Romans 8:15-16; Galatians 4:6)
The most exciting news and truth for those who truly believe in Jesus and wholeheartedly trust Him, is the fact that they are brand new beings that have been filled to the max with the very power that raised Jesus from the dead (see Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9, 11; Ephesians 1:19-20). Your born-again spirit is wall-to-wall Holy Spirit!
As Jesus conquered death and the power of sin, so are the sons and daughters of God. We too in our born-again spirits are alive forever and cannot sin anymore because God’s seed remains in us. (1John 3:9). That seed is God’s everlasting life that is now living in our spirit forever!
But don’t look in the mirror to verify the new you. Nor search you mind for the new you because you won’t find the new you in your body or in your soul (mind). The new resurrected you, is in your born-again spirit!
Now that is epic!
