What is the purpose of life? What is the purpose of my life?
Listen carefully now: You are not an accident. You were made BY God, FOR God. Until you fully understand that truth, life will never make any sense.
There are accidental parents but there are no accidental children. There are illegitimate parents but there are no illegitimate children.
Your parents may have not planned you, but God did. God wanted you alive. Read and meditate on Psalm 139. You’ll discover that before you were born God planned your days in advance. Verse 13 says that God created, formed you in your mother’s womb. That means God uniquely formed and designed you! You were custom-made. You created on purpose, for a purpose.
What is that purpose? For God to love you. Think about that. God, actually, created you so that He can love you. That’s why your heart is beating, lungs expanding and shrinking, eyes and ears functioning, ……alive. Your very first purpose of life is for God to love you. God is love. (1 John 4:8).
And you were created to last forever. One day your heart will stop and that will be the end of your body but not the end of you. In this life you may live let’s say 60, 70, 80, 90,….100 plus years. But after you die, in eternity, you will live millions and millions, billions and billions, trillions and trillions of years. In short, FOREVER! The life we live on earth is extremely, I mean extremely shorter than on the other side of the grave.
But know this. Your life on earth is preparation for eternity. This life determines what comes after you die. It is therefore crucial to know the purpose of your life.
According to the bible there are five purposes why we are alive today: Knowing God, Growing in God, Serving God, Sharing God and Honouring God.
At the deepest level of low-self-esteem, loss of identity, is this truth – spiritual emptiness. God created us to grave after love, peace, joy, security, hope, etc. Success won’t do it. Nor status, fame, sex, pleasure. Only our Creator, God, can fill that vacuum.
